Living in a college dorm is the first chance for many to experience life away from home. Though the majority can get by without too much difficulty in the often basic conditions there are several items that will make living there a little easier.
- Cleaning Supplies. Dorm rooms can become somewhat dirty in a short space of time, particularly if there is a fair amount of partying taking place. General cleaning solutions, sponges and paper towels are useful for keeping this in check.
- Power Strip / Extension Cable. In most cases, a single dorm room has four to six electrical outlets. With a computer, a television, cellphone charger, etc., there is a likelihood of being more things needing electrical power than sockets available.
- Bandages and First Aid Kit. While the mentality of college students is one of not needing to be looked after, occasionally minor accidents can occur that need some attention. A basic first aid kit, that includes bandages, cold medication and paracetamol is a neccesity for any student.
- Personal Printer. All most all campuses offer computing areas for students to work at and to print papers. However, such facilities can often be overcrowded and can be restricted to daytime hours of availablity. Being able to print what you want, when you want with a personal printer makes life less stressful.
- Spare Bed Linens. The piece of furniture that takes up the most space in a dorm room is normally the bed. Since it is the largest thing, it tends to be used for more than just sleeping. This can rapidly result in dirty sheets that need washing. Keeping several sets of linens makes sleeping a nicer, cleaner experience.
- Tools. Sometimes, when things break, the building maintenance guys don’t come quick enough or claim that it isn’t their responsibility. Getting yourself basic tools, such as a hammer and screwdriver, makes little accidents less of a problem.
- Tape and/or Adhesives. A majority of universities do not permit residents to put holes in walls in order to place posters and picture frames. Having tape, sticky tack, or adhesive strips helps to hang up pictures, posters, and other decorations without damaging either wall or the decorations themselves.
